Assistant, Speak and receipt backups
The assistant explains a preview in plain words: what is safe to remove, why a section is large, what a recovery tier means. It sees section numbers, sizes and counts, never a file path or file name.
Ask about a preview
Open Assistant under Review after a preview. Type a question, or pick a suggested one, such as What is safe to remove? Answers link to the pages of this documentation they rely on.
For each section in the preview the app sends only:
| Sent | Never sent |
|---|---|
| Section number, planned size, recovery tier, item count, status | File paths, file names, item names, your home folder |
Answers are guidance and can be wrong. The preview and each section's recovery tier decide what a run changes.
Speak
Hold Speak to ask by voice, for up to 30 seconds. The recording is turned into text, which you check and can edit before it is sent. The recording is not stored. macOS asks once for microphone access; typing still works without it.
Levels and monthly questions
| Plan | Level | Questions a month |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Spark — fast and efficient | 30 |
| Pro | Pulse — reasons more carefully | 300 |
| Team | Surge — thinks deepest | 1,000 |
Questions reset on the first day of each month. When the assistant is resting, it shows when it will be back; previews and runs are never affected. See Plans and allowance.
Receipt backups
On Pro (up to 100) and Team (up to 500) you can back up a receipt's summary to your account: Back up this receipt on a receipt, or turn on Back up each receipt after a run in Settings › Backups. On another Mac, sign in and choose Restore to this Mac.
A backup holds the receipt's date, macOS and app version, totals and, for each section, its number, status, sizes and item count. It holds no file paths and is not a backup of your files. Deleting a backup, or your account, removes it. See Privacy in the app.
