Moving from mac-cleanup-py

This is the closest neighbour on the list: a command-line cleaner you can read. The move is mostly vocabulary. Named modules become numbered sections, and --only is how you pick them.

What maps to what

In mac-cleanup-pyIn macleanup
pip3 install or brew installnpx macleanup, or a git checkout with no Node
Clear cacheSections 3 and 5
Delete logsSection 7
A module per tool--only with section numbers
A saved set of modulesProfiles and ~/.macleanuprc

Sections 12 (orphaned app data) and 21 (unused apps) are the additions. Neither is in --all.

Move across

  1. Run it from a checkout with bash alone.

    git clone https://github.com/aoneahsan/macleanup.git
    cd macleanup
    chmod +x macleanup.sh
    ./macleanup.sh --list
  2. Preview the sections that replace your module list.

    ./macleanup.sh --only "3,5,7" --dry-run
  3. Scripting it? The event stream is NDJSON. --json-events has a stated schema.

    ./macleanup.sh --only "3,5,7" --dry-run --json-events
